Meet Karen (she/her), P.Eng, PMP, MBA
Hi, I’m Karen – founder of Kismet Consulting and a certified soul purpose and leadership coach.
After nearly 20 years as a professional engineer and project manager working across Canada’s North and abroad, I found myself physically burned out and emotionally depleted. Despite a successful career leading complex infrastructure and environmental projects, I realized I wasn’t using the gifts that mattered most to me; my empathy, creativity, and the ability to truly connect with people.
That realization led me to a major career pivot. I trained as a certified soul purpose coach through the International Coaching Federation–recognized Dharma Coaching Institute, and I’ve since combined that with my background in engineering and leadership to help others find clarity, purpose, and sustainable energy in their own lives and careers.
At Kismet Consulting, I specialize in clarity coaching, emotionally intelligent leadership development, and project support rooted in both strategic thinking and heart-centered insight. I help mission-driven professionals, especially those in STEM and technical roles, reconnect with their authentic strengths, reduce burnout, and create meaningful change in their work and personal lives.
Beyond coaching, I’m an artist, singer-songwriter, sourdough enthusiast, and motorcycle rider. I believe our quirks are our superpowers, and that bringing your whole self into your work is the key to lasting fulfillment.

We love the quirks that make you unique and special, and we want to know more about them! Excavating your talents and finding the energy to make them a part of your life is key to reducing burnout and increasing joy.
Some of Karen’s quirks are what make her an excellent coach and fun at parties! She is a “highly sensitive person” with lots of emotional intelligence and empathy, and she has studied mindful self-compassion to heal herself and others. She is a watercolour and alcohol ink artist, and she sings, plays guitar, and writes songs. She even has two albums of original songs! Click Here to Listen
Karen loves to hike mountains, grow veggies, travel the world, ride her motorcycle, and cook delicious meals. She is also skilled at baking sourdough bread and is known to gift freshly-baked loaves to all her friends and family.

Motivation refers to the drive and energy that propels us towards our goals. Developing motivation involves setting clear goals, creating a plan of action, and staying focused on our objectives. By improving our motivation, we can achieve our goals more effectively, stay resilient in the face of challenges, and create a greater sense of purpose in our lives.
